Arete...

We are bound by SO many ridiculous forces, making us choose diamonds over character.

We've been misplaced by society in its unimpeded quest to distract us from our values.
To be normative in society today is to be 5 ft 10,long blond hair, heart-shaped lips, rich, rich, rich and rich!
We are made to believe that these 'qualities' are ought to be aspired. Money has supreme prevalence over us, we can't get out of this but we can curb it. HELPPP!

Hey guys!
I'm sure you're wondering what I've got here today...again! :)
After soo much philosophy...its time to call it over. I've spoken about it in one of my earlier posts...its had a very strong impact on me.

I blogged about the Philosophy of Religion...disproving and proving the existence of God and all that. Believe me that almost made me *tic tic in the head hahaha!
However,since I won't be doing anything Phi-lo-so-phy anymore..woohoo!{not really :(}

I thought to 'gist' you about one of my favorite topics- Virtue Ethics.

I won't go into the philosophical part of it, but basically Virtue Ethics is person rather than action oriented: it looks at the virtue or moral character of the person carrying out an action, rather than at ethical duties and rules, or the consequences of particular actions.

The main difference between the Deontological (Kantian and co) and teleological ethicists (Bentham and co) is that they base their principles on rules. As Kant would posit that some things should never be done, no matter what good consequences they produce. This seems quite reasonable but Virtue Ethics doesn't give people rigid rules on how to be moral. It doesn't just make sense to refer to a scroll on how to live uprightly! Rather,Virtue ethics not only deals with the rightness or wrongness of individual actions, it provides guidance as to the sort of characteristics and behaviours a good lifestyle should include and that a good person should seek to achieve. *better ey ;)

In that way, virtue ethics is concerned with the whole of a person's life, rather than particular episodes or actions.

Now that Ive bored you on that...*yh thanks for nodding...sucker! :(* My point is that we should aim to be virtuous!lol

The things we do and our attitudes to different situations matter. Its truly not all about fast cars, flashing lights and all that. Sometimes we need to slow down on things, re assess our lifestyles and make alterations if necessary. My dad said a few days ago, that my sisters and I should be sensitive to our environment.

I laughed because i thought that was just another reason not to give us more shopping money. Thinking about it now, I totally agree.

You know when you're travelling abroad (to Nigeria for example lol ) and your parents tell you to take those bracelets off, the loops off, the rings off, the necklace-S off...and you're like what the! uhhuh I knew someone else'll be able to relate to that lol!

Believe me, they have their reasons. I used to call it bad-parenting, why are they constantly fluking my style??! Now I really know why. Dont get me wrong I'm not saying we shouldn't wear everything we want and you know-- show off heehee...I'm the wrong person to be telling you that! *Guilty Smile

Virtue has to do with these things also. Ask me why...ok! (you asked for it o).
There is Vice of deficit and vice of excess, where Virtue meets in the middle. it is regarded as the golden mean- where we all should aspire to be. Its not too much, its not too little, its just right. Think of it as Goldilocks and the three Bears story: Papa bear, Mama bear and baby bear's porridge. Too hot, too cold and just right-yum!

We want baby bears porridge in this instance.

For example, Courage as the golden mean....its vice of deficit is Cowardice and its vice of excess-Rashness. What do you want to possess?

I really don't want to sound like I'm giving a lecture or sth...but i don't know how else to make it nice and u know...:( Bear with me, its all a learning curve.

Anyways...I'll stick to my status quo.

Four main cardinal virtues we should possess are : Temperance emmm another word would be moderation, justice, courage and wisdom.Plato, Aristotle,Aquinas and of course- the Stoics considered them to be the basis of moral life.

So guys, just to state my blog-mission statement again lol. its my diary...its the things i like and the things i do not, its the things I'm drawn towards and that which i am not. I really want to get to the Virtuous optimum but it will begin baby steps. I like to see Virtue as behaviour forming...a habitual way of acting. We learn it...we are not born with it! *D'uh! (Nature Vs Nurture debate)

Aristotle says we get happiness (eudaimonia)through virtue (Arete). It is true.

Enjoy the rest of your week and make a conscious effort to put things in order. Not too much...not too little :)

Awwww...I love u guys! You're the only ones who listen to me, no one else does not even my older twin Sheywun (follow her on twitter @itsallaboutseun ). I love her. She's a sane kid...unlike me :( lol x

Bella Luna...My Beautiful moon

Heeyyyyy!!! missed u too *huggie :)

These days have been soo ooo busy for me! 9 modules to go...I don't see that tunnel yet or a spot of silver. Still I'm relentless.

Asides studying Memetics, Mechanics and my mesmerising mathematics, nothing extraordinary has happened. I've grown to love and grown to accept certain persons for who they are, flaws and all. We can't all be perfect ey *wink wink lol

Oh yh...went to the beach on Monday with Church! It was a fun day out but the weather was crap! I won't stop stressing 'bout how bipolar the British weather is!

The past two days have been sunny and extremely bright, However! Got me new sunglasses *heehee oh yh baby!

Lest i forget...its great to see people i don't know follow me, both privately and publicly lol, yh thank u too ;)

Yesterday at the library, bored to death studying for my Astrophysics exam...This girl-like figure walks in, the first thing i see are her Toms, in my head I'm like ''Cool kid, i like her shoes''. Then i looked up to see who this 'person that i like her shoes is' (pheww...long description ey). I looked up...I'm sure my eyes said it all. There's this feeling i get when i see beautiful people...she gave me the cutest smile ever, it didn't seem induced, it felt natural.

As my sprung eyes glittered, I smiled back and muttered 'Hi'..you know the kind of 'Hi' no one hears, just my lips and heart knew....ineffable.

Those two letters I said back to her smile, meant ten things in a nanosecond. 'Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow...(till fade).

She walked back to her table, I was distracted. I kept smiling to myself...so appreciative of such beauty. Don't get it twisted people...I'm not far off either *pretty smile* lol!

O boy! depends on how farrrrrrrrr far off is Tito!

I walked up to her smiling, said i liked her shoes, she said 'Thank you' with that same smile...I knew it was inbuilt in her!

We started talking...told her my name, she did as well. Told me she was writing her GCSE's and hoping to study English Language, Photography and Drama at A level. I did not tell her what I was studying! No...I didn't want to lose a friend sooo soon :(

Haha!

Sixteen year old...very well-mannered. I wanted her to be my sister, not a replica! her! This graceful gorg 'Peng tin', like my friend would say.

About 4 minutes into the convo, a girl walked towards us...she introduced me to her:

Beautiful Graceful Girl : Nat meet my friend Tito, Tito meet Natalie my sister.
Natalie: Hi Tito :) (similar smile to B.G.G)
Sprung Tito: Hiya! Can i adopt your sister? *laffs
Nat: Everyone asks me that *shy laugh (awwww...i know)

The few minutes i spent with these girls especially B.G.G, made me realise how effective natural grace and beauty is.

They say beauty is skin deep...I agree. However, If this girl hadn't been soo pretty, I wont have noticed she had full-on character as well!

Beauty...with added unquantifiable value...she showed it out then in.

Although this blog post is dedicated to B.G.G, the girl who made me smile two days running...my friends have been pushing me to blog this week. I dedicate the feeling i feel right now, soo much happiness and love, to Tosin....although you're a 000 miles over water, feels like you're here. Miss you soo much, thanks for the support!
:) x

Well...if its one thing we take from this little story, let it NOT be that you should becomes ostriches and bury your heads in sand cos you're not pretty...*insert evil laugh!(muhahaha)
But LET IT be that a smile can make up for all the physical dis attraction you may possess...

To everyone..Have a lovely weekend ahead. Let people see the good sides to your person.:)

To this Beautiful Graceful Girl...I hope to see you again.

Yours,
Teetleskittles.
